New Release Wish List

Yesterday American Girl released quite a few new items so I thought I would share with you my wishlist from the new releases.

First off, of course Nanea Mitchell makes the cut! I personally love the new face mold and her wide-eyed look. She is gorgeous. She would become a modern doll in my collection and be renamed as well but she will be a great addition to my collection.

Nanea’s Family Market is adorable. How cute is that Spam?! I mostly want this just for the accessories, but knowing me, I would figure out something to do with the counter and the store shelves as well. I am not one that feels I need to keep things exactly as American Girl makes them, so I am open to taking things apart, painting, etc. Nevertheless $250 is a lot of money for the accessories and no clear idea what I would do with the other pieces. So I might just wait until I can find the Spam and other canned goods on eBay instead of buying the entire set.

Z’s Rainy Day Outfit is cute. I especially love the vest and rain boots. This is another one of those outfits where I would probably mix and match the pieces with other items as I am not a fan of them all together. But individually all of the pieces are adorable. I think it is a little obnoxious that the umbrella is sold with Popcorn’s Rainy Day Outfit as I have no plans to get that set. I am just not as into the animals as most people are. So I will do without the umbrella.

Z’s Media Kit is adorable, but I’m not 100% sure I am going to get it. I will probably just make americangirlideas version. That way I can have more than one light box and I can make as many backdrops as my heart desires. And for the cost of American Girl’s version I can probably make two light boxes, the green screen, a storage bag for the poles, at least a dozen different backdrops and I could still purchase a plastic container to store all of it in! So the only things I would really be missing out on are the Seattle backdrop, the megaphone, the clapboard, the tips and tricks booklet and the pretend award. Those weren’t really the things I wanted from the set anyway, except maybe the tips and tricks booklet.

The new American Girl Stable is adorable?! Have they ever done the chickens and chicken coop before? Well as of right now the chickens and their coop are really all I want from this set so as much as I like it, I don’t see me getting it. They’re so cute though!

How cute is this Pie-Baking Set? I don’t even like whipped cream but that little can of it is so cute! And I love those little clear ‘glass’ Pyrex style pie pans! How perfect will this set be for Thanksgiving and Christmas scenes?! I am not a huge fan of the pattern on the plates and would have preferred plain white over what is offered, but they didn’t ask me. Oh well. The set is still amazing!

Ok I’ll admit that the antler headband is a huge part of why I want the Festive Reindeer PJ’s. I mean, I can always use another pair of holiday pajamas but the antlers are just the icing on the cake! Besides, there is always that one friend or family member that wears a set at a holiday gathering and now the dolls can follow that tradition as well!

I love this years Fancy Holiday Dress. The jewel tones and the brocade fabric are gorgeous. For those of us collectors that have ‘older’ dolls, it is a little bit more of a grown up look which is great!

American Girl updated their snow suit this year with their Star Of The Slopes Outfit. I personally like the purple and lime green color contrast and the bold print of the jacket. I  think it makes it fun and will stand out great against the white of the snow.

Every time American Girl comes out with a new snow suit they also put out the supplies for a new winter sport. Sometimes it is skiing. Sometimes it is snowboarding. This time the winter sport is snowboarding so they released a new snowboard, helmet, goggles and mittens to match the new snowsuit. I love the fun chevron pattern on the snowboard and the almost fireworks look on the helmet.

Maryellen’s Roller Skating Accessories are adorable! The crisp white of the skates, against the black base and pink wheels make these look so classic. I am not a fan of the pom pom on the front and I’ll have to investigate this a little closer but I’m thinking they can be removed pretty easily. The socks are cute and basic white so those are always needed. I am curious what the lid to the storage container looks like as American Girl doesn’t have a picture of that on their website. I am not usually a fan of the stickers in the set as I am not a child so I don’t usually use them, but that flamingo is adorable! I would be willing to put that on a canvas or frame it and put it in the doll house somewhere with how cute that is!

Melody’s Birthday Party Accessories is a new set. I personally have no need for the cake itself or the tablecloth, but I LOVE those dishes! They look so much like the blue glass dishes from that era and they are so pretty! And extra silverware is always welcome in my collection as well.

That completes my wish list from yesterday’s release! What items are you wanting?

Our Generation: Fashion Notes

This set is a deluxe set from Our Generation and is called Fashion Notes. It retails for $17.99 and is available at Target. It includes:

  • sweatshirt
  • skirt
  • headband
  • pair of tights
  • pair of shoes
  • trumpet
  • 2 music sheets

The set lists that a sweatshirt is included but I believe it is more of a sweater. It is adorable though. It is light gray with a bit of sparkle woven through the entire thing. There are five pink gem stones on the chest of the sweater which are a nice detail. (I can’t wait to remove the Our Generation ego tag. It will be even better then!)

The skirt is a soft pink tutu style skirt. It is a bit juvenile for my dolls but it is adorable! The tulle is much softer than you would expect it to be as well.

The tights are just plain white and you can never go wrong with another pair of tights. The headband on the other hand…what were they thinking? I don’t understand it at all! I wouldn’t want to wear a big puff-ball on my head.

Ok Our Generation! You are upping your game! I have complained repeatedly about the shoes you include in your clothing sets. The shoes you have in the mini sets have always been amazing but the clothing set shoes have always been sub par. Now that being said, I am still not a fan of fully plastic shoes like this. But these shoes are amazing compared to some of the other shoes I have gotten in Our Generation sets. I love the color combination of pale pink, lavender and white and the style of the shoe from this set. I do wish they were not all plastic though.

I know I usually complain about EVERYTHING being turned pink, but in this case I love that they made the trumpet ‘rose gold’! It is adorable!

This set includes two pages of sheet music. I love how realistic they look. Mine came taped together which drives me nuts! Please Our Generation, stop taping paper items together! But with an insane amount of patience I was able to remove the tape without ruining the paper.

This set is adorable and I fell in love with it as soon as I saw it. The colors are adorable and it has such a soft look to it.

I was able to get Zurie to hold her own sheet music as well!

This set is worth every penny! I definitely recommend it!

Our Generation: Pet Ferret Mini Set

My youngest son wanted to give video reviews a try so if you are interested in an eight year old boy’s opinion of this set, just click the link!

Included in the mini set are a bowl of food, a bag of food, and the ferret. The bowl of food is cute. The bowl is a different color but otherwise it is the same as the one included in the Pet Care Play Set and the new Vet Clinic among others I’m sure. I like how realistic it looks.

I like the bag of food. It adds to the realism of play. It comes with a small rectangle of foam in it which makes it hard to stand up. I think I am going to try adding a bunch of tiny beads to it, giving it some weight so it will stand up. As long as I remember to glue the top shut, I shouldn’t have a mess of spilled beads either.

The ferret itself is just a little plush animal but he is so cute! I love his eye mask and tiny little legs!

This set retails for approximately $6 and is definitely worth it to add some variety in the pet our dolls can own and care for.

Our Generation: Elementary School Set

For the first time ever I attempted a Video Review! So to watch the video, just click the link! It was fun but I don’t think I will be doing video reviews for every set just yet. Just some of them for now.

This is a set from Our Generation. It retails for $29.99 and is available at Target. The set includes:

  • filing cabinet
  • goldfish bowl
  • pair of glasses
  • teacher’s notebook
  • apple
  • bottle of white glue
  • tape dispenser with roll of tape
  • stapler
  • 2 pens
  • 2 highlighters
  • pair of scissors
  • ruler
  • eraser
  • pencil with eraser cap
  • pencil sharpener
  • box of 6 crayons
  •  2 sheets of stickers
  • set of 8 index cards
  • 4 file folders
  • 2 post it note pads
  • 2 text books
  • 2 copy books
  • 30 loose-leaf sheets of lined paper
  • backpack

The filing cabinet is adorable. It is in a cute shade of blue with silver trim along the top edges of the drawers. It is on casters that actually swivel and the wheels roll. It is what I would consider close to scale. Each drawer actually opens and provides quite a bit of storage with space on top to store things as well.

This goldfish in the fish bowl is adorable! I am so excited it was included in the set. I did notice while examining it, the bottom will pop off with the goldfish attached to it. I think it would be cute to add a few pieces of greenery or some tiny pebbles.

It wouldn’t be an Our Generation set without a pair of glasses of some kind! And this set includes a pair of black cat eye glasses with a little red bow on one side.

The teacher’s notebook is a basic steno notebook like in Our Generation’s mini set Take A Letter (the pink typewriter). I would have preferred the notebook be a solid color versus the apple and the words Teacher’s Notebook, but it is still cute and a great addition. I will just keep mine open like in the picture below on the right.

No classroom set would be complete without an apple! This one is really cute…if you only look at it from one side. It has this awful circle and the words BATTAT CHINA stamped into it! Oh well, keep that side turned away.

How cute is this glue bottle?! I don’t already have one of these, so this is a new piece for me. It is cute as is, or you could glue an Elmer’s label on it.

Another new accessory for me is the tape dispenser! It has real working tape as well! (I didn’t unroll mine because my boys take any and all tape they can find)

This stapler is adorable! It will even ‘staple’ as the piece has some movement to it. Before this set, I didn’t have a stapler either. I had seen other mini staplers but the scale never seemed right so I always made excuses not to get one. I am so excited to finally have a stapler that I feel is the correct size!

I really like these pens! They are new for Our Generation. Before this set, they only offered different color options of the black pen shown below. I love that the caps can actually be removed as well.

Highlighters are a definite school necessity and this set offers a pink and a yellow one. They both have removable caps as well. I love these!

Scissors have been available in many Our Generation sets, and these are probably my third or fourth pair. You can never have too many pairs of scissors though! This set offers a green pair.

There is a pencil with a large ornamental heart eraser on one end. It is not removable either. The pencil sharpener is adorable and completely safe as it isn’t an actual blade but merely plastic. The pencil fits in the sharpener perfectly as well.

Oh. My. Goodness. These crayons are adorable! The fact that they are all individual crayons is an added bonus. I would have preferred there to have been more crayons but I will just be happy with what I have!

There are two sheets of stickers! There are red apples on a clear background and gold stars on a clear background. Now your ‘A’ papers will be able to be rewarded!

There are eight index cards in this set. On one side they look like basic ordinary index cards and on the other they have the OG and heart in the bottom right corner. I like the basic side better but at least they gave the option. Also four of them come taped together in the packaging. You can remove the tape without tearing them, however, it leaves a sticky residue I haven’t been able to figure out how to remove yet. I am afraid that Goo-Gone will ruin them.

There are four file folders included in the set. They are adorable and I believe they would be easy to replicate in order to have enough to fill an entire drawer on the filing cabinet. As you can see they are sized perfectly for the dolls and for the paper included in the set.

There are two post it note tablets included in this set. They are the pink and green ones below on the left. The ‘I love school!’ is only on the top sheet so it could be pulled off easily if you don’t want it on there. The two pictures below on the right show these post it notepads in comparison to the one included in Z’s Desk Set. The Our Generation brand is on the bottom of the stack and the American Girl brand is on top. So while the sizes are different, they aren’t that different. After all we have many sizes of post it notes available, why shouldn’t our dolls?

The text books are just like all of the other books Our Generation puts out…empty. But they are cute props. One says History and the other says Geography on the cover. The History text book is dark pink with light pink stripes and green pages. The Geography book is green with yellow/gold stripes and pink pages.

There are two composition books in the set. Our Generation call them copy books. Either way, they are adorable and realistic. The gold/yellow notebook is labeled math and the pink notebook is labeled spelling. The pages are lined but otherwise empty so you can add your own notes!

There are 30 sheet of loose leaf paper included! That is about three times more than I have ever gotten from an Our Generation set! Score! You can never have too much paper!

The backpack is bright pink (the second and third picture are more accurate in what the color looks like in person) with brown faux leather piping and bow. The straps are plenty long for a doll to actually wear it. I was pleasantly surprised to see that the bag was actually lined! That is not common with Our Generation products but I love that this one is!

Overall this is an amazing set! It has some repeated accessories but there are so many new ones as well!

American Girl’s ‘Create Your Own’ Line

Yesterday American Girl launched their new ‘Create Your Own’ line. You are able to design your own doll or your own clothing! I am super excited about this even though I know there are others out there that feel their customs are no longer as special due to this new development. I do not feel as if my customs are any less special and apparently there are many people out there who feel the same way because as I was trying to do research for this post the site kept crashing or going ridiculously slow.  Today we are going to focus in the Clothing side of the ‘Create Your Own’ line. Beware: This is a picture heavy post. Fourty one pictures to be exact! Enjoy!

After clicking on the ‘Create Your Own’ link on the website, the first image you will see is this:

Let’s explore the Design One Of A Kind Fashion first. There are six different design your own items: a Doll Sports Outfit, a Girl Tee Shirt, a Girl Backpack, a Doll Tee Shirt, a Doll Tunic and Leggings, and a Doll Dress. There are also 5 different themes to choose from when decorating: sports, school, sparkle, animals, and explore. I am going to start with the Sports Outfit costs $34 to design and the picture below shows what your starting point is.  Because this is the sports outfit, I decided to keep the theme sports. This outfit is nice because you can design three different pieces but unfortunately the shorts are as is and do not allow customizing.

I chose to check out the Backgrounds first. Below you can see that there are twenty-two different options for Backgrounds. I put one on the tee-shirt as an example.

I am not really sure what they difference (in this case anyway) what the difference is between Backgrounds and Patterns. But when I click on Patterns, there are five to choose from and again I put one on the tee-shirt as an example.

‘Chose Your Color’ Graphics gives you a choice of eighteen colors and twenty-three graphics and it simply means you chose a graphic and the color you want it to be on the shirt. Again I have an example below.

Standard Graphics are basic generic graphics and other than adjusting the size you really cannot customize them. There are ten options and I selected one as an example below.

In this instance with the Sports Outfit the Fashion Details are Raglan sleeves. The options are light gray, dark gray, red and black. I have shown them below in the dark gray. I think for this outfit, this is probably my favorite and most realistic design element.

The last design element to explore is Type. You can choose the color and font of your type as well as resize it and have it say what you choose. I have shown below one of the many combinations that could be made and it includes an example of the Type as well.

In designing this outfit you have the choice of:

headband: Backgrounds and Patterns

tee-shirt: Backgrounds, Patterns, ‘Choose Your Color’ Graphics, Standard Graphics, Fashion Details and Type

socks: Backgrounds, Patterns, ‘Choose Your Color’ Graphics, Standard Graphics and Type

Next up we will look at the Girl Tee Shirt which costs $28 to design. I decided to check out the school theme for this tee-shirt. Below is the blank canvas ready for customization.

First up is Backgrounds. I found this to look weird but that is my opinion. I don’t like that it is just a large rectangle. I would have wanted the whole shirt to have had the same background. But that is just my opinion. Other people may like that. Anyway, there are thirteen options and I have an example below.

For the Girl Tee Shirt, Patterns are set up the same as the Backgrounds. I don’t find it to  look quite as odd as the Backgrounds but I still would have preferred it to be an all over print. There are five Patterns to choose from and you can see my example below.

Well apparently you have to stay inside the box on the front of the tee-shirt with every design element because it was the same for the ‘Choose Your Color’ Graphics. Well, no matter check it out below. There are nine color options and six design options.

The Standard Graphics are not able to be customized with the exception of resizing them but there are fourteen options to choose from and you can see one down below.

So for the Girl Tee Shirt there is no option of Fashion Details so I will move on to Type. Again you can choose fonts and colors and adjust the sizing of whatever you decide you want your shirt to say. I gave an example below.

I feel that the design elements for the Girl Tee Shirt are much more limited than that of the Sports Outfit.

Let’s check out the Girl Backpack now which can be designed for $45. I think for this one I will go with the explore theme. Below you can see what you start with.

There are thirteen Background options for the Backpack. I kind of like the Background I used as an example.

When it comes to the Patterns offered, there are five offered and I really am not a fan of any of them. Nevertheless, I have an example for you.

Under the ‘Choose Your Color’ Graphic there are nine colors and six graphic choices.

As for the Standard Graphics, there are twenty-two to choose from and I think this one I chose as an example is pretty neat. Again, other than resizing, you are not able to customize these graphics.

The final option for customizing the Girl Backpack, is Type. There are nine different color options as well as four different fonts to choose from. You can also resize your Type however you would like.

You are also able to use multiple features on the single backpack. For example; you could have a Background, a Type and a Standard Graphic. These are pretty neat and will probably appeal to the much younger crowd but I do not ever see me designing one of these.

Moving on, let’s check out the Doll Tunic and Leggings which are available to customize for $32. I will go with the animal theme on this one. So what you start with is shown below and is a simple long sleeve tee-shirt and a pair of what looks to be leggings style pants.

The Background options are different for the Tunic as well as for the pants. There are thirteen options to choose from. The first four are different colors but the same pattern but have a ‘sweater’ look to them.

There are seventeen Background options for the Pants. The first four make the pants look like blue jeans in different colors; dark blue, light blue, gray and black. The next four are the same ‘sweater’ look that is available for the tunic. The rest are solid colors.

When it comes to Patterns there are five options and they are the same for both the Tunic and the Pants.

As for the ‘Choose Your Color’ Graphics, there are nine colors and six graphics. You can adjust the size as well as rotate the graphic as I have done as an example on the Pants below.

For the standard graphics, I had fun playing around. I chose a fun pug dog in a sweater and I chose to add a pair of oversized glasses to him. Then for the Pants I took the glasses and put them all over the pants to look like a print. There were a total of twenty-one different Standard Graphics.

When it comes to the Fashion Details, they are available for the Tunic only. There are rhinestone look images in the shape of a Peter Pan collar in four different colors as well as knotted skinny belts in a choice of four different colors.

Type offers nine different colors and four fonts. You are also able to resize, rotate or stack with any of the other design elements.

The possibilities truly do seem to be endless.

Next up is the Doll Tee-Shirt for $14 and we will explore it in the Adventure theme. Below I have the blank canvas. As you can see there are no Fashion Details offered for the Tee-Shirt.

There are thirteen Background options. I think the one I chose has sort of an acid wash look. I wish that the Background would cover the entire shirt but unfortunately it is confined to the rectangle on the front of the shirt.

Patterns are unfortunately the same. They are confined to the rectangle on the front of the shirt. There are however five options.

The ‘Choose Your Color’ Graphic offers nine colors and six different Graphics. Again we are confined to the rectangle on the front of the shirt.

There are twenty-two Standard Graphic choices and you are able to resize them as long as you stay in the borders of that rectangle.

The Type option is basic and just like every other ‘Create Your Own’ item there are nine color options and four fonts to choose from.

The Create Your Own Doll Tee is a bit of a let down to me. I can see me designing many adorable tee shirts if only it wasn’t for that annoying rectangle we are stuck inside of.

The final Create Your Own item that American Girl released was a Doll Dress that can be customized for $32. We will explore it with the Sparkle theme.

For the Backgrounds there are thirteen choices with the first four being an all over sequin look in different color choices.

There are five different Pattern choices with one being the example I have below.

The ‘Choose Your Color’ Graphics are pretty much the same as with every other customizable item. There are nine color choices and six graphic choices.

When it comes to the Standard Graphics there are twenty-four options with most of those being polka dots.

Finally another item with Fashion Details! The dress offers a choice of four different colored skirts, four different colored belts and four different colored necklaces.

And finally there is Type. Again there are nine colors and four fonts but surprisingly enough the fonts are different for the dress than they have been for any other item in the ‘Create Your Own’ line.

The dress is very cute but for $32 dollars I would think there should be more to it. That is a bit much for a simple sleeveless A-line dress and should come with accessories for that price.

All in all I am really excited about this line. I hope that as time goes by that they will expand this line and improve upon what they have already created. There are only so many white tee-shirts with a rectangle full of design that I will want to buy. But if they offer a variety of colors or expand it so that the Backgrounds and Patterns can cover the entire shirt instead of just that rectangle, I am more likely to buy more tee-shirts. Have you checked out the ‘Create Your Own’ line yet? I hope I was able to open your eyes to all of the possibilities of what is available just on the clothing side of it. Tune in next week and I will be going over the doll portion of the ‘Create Your Own’ line!
